With the Great Smoky Mountains as a back-drop, Knoxville shopping also smokes. House Mountain Christmas Tree Farm on Childs Road sells choose-n-cut memory-makers. One Vision Plaza, Knoxville's visitor center on Gay Street, stocks maps, brochures, and gifts, while dispensing coffee, treats, and live music daily. Knoxville Center Mall, anchored by Dillard's, JCPenney, Proffitt's and Sears, hosts more than 120 specialty shops from The Buckle and Lane Bryant to Old Navy and Yankee Candle. West Town Mall, has Dillard's, Sears, JCPenney, Proffitt's, Parisian, 130 specialty stores, and more than a dozen restaurants. The Old City Historic District, north of downtown, features shops and boutiques for gifts, crafts, art and apparel.

Knoxville's Market Square district, site of the original circa 1854 city market area between Wall and Union avenue, beckons with eateries and shops including Booker's Home & Office Accents, stocking a range from area rugs to imported glassware. Homberg Place on Kingston Pike is filled with retailers, galleries, and shops for antiques, collectibles, and interiors. Southern Market, on Homberg Drive, features some 40 shops.
